Meeting minutes from last meeting reviewed and accepted

Jacob Winn Barn

The Historical Commission met with Robert Lowell on Jan. 19, 2006 regarding the demolition of the “Jacob Winn” barn currently located at 77 Lancaster St. At that time the commission requested that the barn not be destroyed but dismantled and relocated to the Historical Society on 65 Worcester St.

The dismantling of the barn is currently on hold.

It appears that we are waiting for the state to get final approval.
Greg Shepard will use inmates from Worcester County House of Correction, David Snay with do photography, Charlie Greenough will videotape and Tom Petty will act as a consultant and oversee the demolition and reconstruction.  Norm Goodale has contracted a flat bed to transport the shed and the West Boylston Police Department will be advised of the move.

Giobelina Property

The Historic Commission wants photos, written information and documents as well as artifacts, but no structures from the property. The commissioners on their tour observed items that would included wagon wheels, grinding wheels, axels and hand tools as well as other artifacts that would interpret farm life.

Vida Maddocks has donated a collection of materials to the Historical Society; these items include blacksmith and tinsmith tools, cooperage tools, bench and barrels.  It is hoped that the Jacob Winn barn will accommodate a display of these items with ½ of the barn for blacksmithing and the other ½ designated as tinsmith exhibits.  Her sons are accomplished blacksmiths and will demonstrate their trade.

Demolition Delay Bylaws
The Town Clerk will send out email to surrounding communities to sample working bylaws of the cities and towns that have accepted a Demolition Delay bylaw.

WPI Project
Neil needs a succinct statement of what we want done to give to the project manager at WPI.  This list would include the projects that we would like completed as well as an estimated time line for completion of any projects.

- Rev. Milton Bartless has previously contacted members of the board to make a diorama of the old town layout prior to the construction of the reservoir.  Maps and 3D.

- The Commission has 1,600 pictures on a cd that is in the possession of Jean Costello which needs to be catalogued.

- Reprinting of all Mae Cook scrap books - the library has offered them to copy, there are currently 20+ volumes dating in the late 1800's to 1926.  We can archive them and create a database.
